Mastering Video for Stills Photographers

Milton Keynes

2nd July 2017

The Event

Ever tried recording video with your DSLR or CSC? For most people the results are disappointing, however in this one day course you will learn the tips and tricks of how to create cinematic style footage with most DSLR and CSC cameras.

We start the day with an overview of the technical aspects, getting the correct settings to produce footage that can be imported into you video editor and then enhanced with colour grading.

We will look at how you can move the camera using tripods with fluid heads, sliders, gimbals, steady cams and how you can fake the dolly zoom effect so popular in modern films. Finally in this section we will look at lighting.

Next we move onto audio, how to record it with on camera mics, lavalier mics and using separate recording devices and then syncing the sound in post.

Finally before breaking for lunch you will learn about key shots, camera angles and “B” roll.

After a break for lunch you will shoot some footage which you will be able to take away and edit.

We round off the day back in the classroom looking at importing your video and how basic editing can be carried out in Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Filmora. You will be shown how to grade your footage, add audio and create transitions and titles.

Finally we will run through file types and codecs used when exporting your final footage.
