What you will learn

How to plan an art nude shoot so that you are organised and all set for success

Optimum ways to light with single and multiple flash heads to accentuate shape, tone and texture
The art of posing a nude model to create beautiful and emotive images

How do you define Art Nude? This course begins with a good look at the genre, including a range of examples to cement our ideas. Next, we get our heads around how to organise an Art Nude shoot so that everything runs smoothly. Everything you need to know is covered - from sourcing and booking your model to finding a location - together with instruction on the poses and etiquette of this photographic art form.

That leaves the whole afternoon free for the practical side of the workshop. In the studio, you will learn hands-on how to define body shape using one, two and three lights with tuition on how to position each one. There’s a detailed demonstration of which modifiers to use and the effects you can achieve, with plenty of time for you to shoot each setup.

You will learn how to photograph the human form in a variety of positions, working on the aesthetics of shape and form. Using a single light, discover how to create the dramatic low key bodyscapes which are a distinctive style of the genre. We then begin adding more lights to achieve high and low key images of our model in various different poses: sitting, standing and leaning. A particularly valuable aspect of the afternoon is the opportunity to direct the model who will be experienced in the genre and able to help you to achieve some great images.

  • Refreshments on arrival, lunch and afternoon tea
  • Classroom tuition from an award-winning trainer
  • Hands-on practical shoot time to practise and embed your learning
  • A professional model experienced in the genre
  • Comprehensive course notes

You will need an interchangeable lens camera that can shoot in manual and has a standard hot shoe.

We suggest bringing lenses that cover the following focal lengths, don't worry if you don't have these you can complete the course with a standard kit lens.

Full Frame Sensors. 24mm - 200mm

APS 1.5 Crop 18mm - 150mm

MFT 2x Crop 14mm - 100mm

This is an intermediate level course.

You should be familiar with your camera controls and be able to shoot in manual exposure mode. Manual focussing is not required. Previous experience of working with studio flash is not essential.

I've been on several of Andrews courses, workshops and trips and have to say they have all been superb.. His training style is relaxed and informal, reaching all levels of expertise  in the one course whether you are a beginner or an accomplished photographer you will always learn something from him. . the courses I have been on have given me ample shooting time (its not all classroom work and watching the trainer do all the shooting - as some trainers do) . Andrew is on-hand to help you out if required whilst you are shooting . If you are looking for a great trainer I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Andrew  and any of his many courses.. I intend booking on  more workshops in the future. Howard Ashton-Jones
