Autumn/Winter Location Lighting Workshop

Sherwood Forest, Nottingham

28th October 2018

One of the questions I am most frequently asked is how to use flash to light a subject out on location. This 3-hour, hands-on workshop is the answer to that question. Come along with just your camera and a selection of lenses and you will learn the secrets behind those amazing location shots you admire – and take home some of your own.

Essentially, this workshop is all about balancing the power of both speedlights and portable studio flash with ambient light. The aim: to create beautiful images with integrity and credibility. In one afternoon, you will learn how to complement the direction and quality of daylight; how to decide on the right modifier for the occasion; how to maximise the power of small flashes – plus a whole lot more.

Appleton Photography Training Location Lighting Workshop

You’ll be travelling light because we provide the speedlights, studio light, soft boxes and brollies. Just bear in mind that some of the most atmospheric images are captured in adverse weather conditions. Rain or shine, you will learn the techniques and get the shots.

The Location

The setting for the course is in Nottingham. Chosen for its natural beauty, this area provides a fantastic backdrop for your photography. Autumn will be turning to Winter so we should have a gorgeous colour palette from which to choose.

The Model

You will be photographing an experienced model; styling will be Autumn/Winter country fashion.

The Event

This workshop runs between 12 noon and 3pm on Sunday 28th October 2018. The cost of the workshop is £99 per person and is limited to a maximum of 8 photographers. Members of the photographic societies and associations may qualify for a discount. Please contact for more information.

The Gear

Speed lights and studio flash will be provided. You will need your camera which must have a hot shoe and we suggest lenses as listed below but don't worry if you don't have them. You will still get great shots with your camera's kit lens.

    • Full Frame sensor: 24mm to 200mm
    • APSC: 18mm to 150mm
    • Micro Four Thirds: 12mm to 100mm
