3rd May - 4th May
Guild of Photographers' Special - Save £100
This comprehensive hands-on workshop teaches you exactly what you need to know to shoot amazing portraits. During the course of two days, you will learn about and shoot a range of different styles from classic fine art to more contemporary captures. The course equips you to shoot male, female and children’s portraits, including how to approach commercial and actors’ headshots. Every aspect of photographic portraiture is covered: from the technical considerations to the soft skills you need to get the best from your subject.
Making the Right Choices
There are so many excellent tools and techniques available to you; this course teaches you not only the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ but also the ‘why’. That way, you will gain a really sound understanding of portrait photography so that you consistently make the best choices. You will learn about:
- Lighting patterns
- Creating natural light with studio flash
- Selecting modifiers
- Using reflectors
- Low and high key
- Studying face shapes
- Lens selection
Communication and Directing
Acquiring the technical skills is important but, to produce an image which really reflects your subject’s personality, you also need to be able to communicate effectively. You will learn how to work with different types of people, from professional models to inexperienced sitters; finding and adapting a style of direction which makes them feel comfortable and enables you to get that killer shot. A portrait sitting is a two-way thing; honing your interpersonal skills will enable to you to capture much more than physical appearance.
