Fine Art Landscape, Dance and Nude. May 2019

Ireland’s West Coast. Once seen, never forgotten - and just begging to be photographed. The beauty and diversity of this fabulously unspoilt part of the world inspires creativity and is the very best place to shoot Dance, Fine Art and Art Nude; we provide everything else to help you to really make the most of the experience.

What we are offering photographers is quite unique. Breath-taking locations, a professional wardrobe stylist and photography tuition delivered by an award-winning photography trainer. All this from your base in a comfortable, family run hotel in the heart of the Connemara National Park.

Endless photographic opportunities

This will be our third photographic adventure on Irish soil and we can’t wait to share with you the locations we have discovered. Once again, we limit spaces to six photographers to ensure plenty of shooting time, plus group and personalised tuition. You will enjoy four full days of shooting two fully-styled models in a number of very different settings. And the rugged coastline gives us the possibility to shoot both sunrise and sunset.

On previous Roadtrips in Ireland, we have shot in and around the scenic Connemara National Park and The Wild Atlantic Way. The whole area is loaded with opportunities - mountains, lakes and harbours; mile upon mile of windswept sandy beaches and rocky outcrops; castles, churches and historic ruins. The colours and textures are spectacular both as backdrops for Dance, Fine Art and Art Nude and, of course, for pure landscape photography. On one of the four days, we drive to Galway for some Dance, Lifestyle and Street photography. Plenty to shoot but, this October, we believe we can offer you something extra…

…and then some

What could be a better aid to exploring this fabulous location with your camera than a bit of local knowledge? This year, we have Tony Conneely. Born and bred in the heart of Connemara, Tony is our ‘go to’ guide and will direct us to the secret corners that others miss. He is also our host for the duration of our stay at a charming hotel in a country village setting.

Irish hospitality

Your four days will be packed full of great shooting but, come the evening, you will have the chance to relax at The Maol Reidh Hotel in Tully Cross. Tony and Geraldine Connelly who run the hotel provide lovely spacious rooms so you can spread out and really make yourself at home. All accommodation is single occupancy with en suite facilities and all the usual comforts and conveniences you would expect from a three-star hotel, including TV and free WiFi. The rooms variously overlook The Atlantic Ocean, mountain ranges and the peat bogs which characterise the region.

The restaurant in the hotel serves a range of fresh local produce and specific dietary requirements are catered for. We can eat together or you can decide to do your own thing; there are no set rules. This is your holiday! There’s a bar at the hotel and a couple of pubs in the village with food and live music on some nights. Alternatively, if you want us to drive you into nearby Letterfrack, it’s less than 10 minutes away.

Included in the cost of the trip is a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day’s shooting.

Photography in style

We like to think that one of the things that sets us apart from other photography breaks and holidays is our styling. Helen, our qualified make-up artist and wardrobe stylist, spends a significant amount of time prior to the trip putting together the outfits and accessories to suit the various locations. She is very particular about attention to detail and presentation - not always easy when travelling! Her aim is to give you variety, polish and authenticity so that your can focus on composition and the technical aspects of your photography.

Flexible photographic tuition

While you are away, you naturally want to get the best possible captures. From our experience, we see that small group and one-to-one training really helps you to get the best from your photography so this intensive four days in Ireland is perfect. Best case scenario for most photographers is that they take what they have learnt back home and make permanent improvements to the way they craft their images.

So how does this work? On the first day of shooting, Andrew assesses where individual photographers are experiencing challenges and addresses them through his tuition in a friendly and accessible way. Over the remaining three shoot days, it’s a case of practising new techniques, asking questions where necessary. We find that the group really gels so that people also support and learn from each other.  Back at the hotel, there is often time to review images and run through some editing and processing, if that’s what people want. It’s flexible. Take as much or as little as you want away with you. No pressure. Set your own targets. Andrew is on hand to help in whatever way he can.

The Route

Sunday 12th: We meet at Dublin airport around 2pm. Please liaise with us regarding flight times. we also have an option for 4 photographers to travel with us via the ferry from Holyhead. You will need to be at Holyhead port by 8am. There is an additional cost of £60 which includes the return ferry.

We drive from Dublin to our hotel The Maol Reidh Hotel in Tully Cross.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday our schedule is fluid in order to compliment the weather. Over the four days you will be able to shoot on the beach, at the small harbour, in the Connemara National Park, Galway, the limestone pavements of The Burren plus Clifden and Clifden Castle.

Friday 17th: An early start and we head for Dublin. We can drop those flying from Dublin back to the airport and, for those returning by ferry, our crossing is late afternoon.

The Models

Alexa Hilton and Scarlet Fox will be modelling and dancing on this trip.

What you will need

Obviously a camera! Apart from that, it is really up to you. We are not equipment snobs on these trips. Full frame, APSC, Micro Four Thirds or Medium Format: it is up to you. We suggest you bring a tripod but we will have them available to borrow. Lenses that cover 24mm to 200mm are common but not necessary - you could shoot the whole trip with a 50mm f/1.8 if you wanted! A speedlight would be handy but again not an essential; we will be bringing a selection plus a portable studio flash and the usual assortment of reflectors.

Clothing-wise, you will need to be able to keep warm and dry. Although we don't envisage a huge amount of walking, some may be on rough or wet ground so bring suitable boots with you.

If you have any questions regarding kit, then please email

What to expect

Our roadtrips are a mix of shooting under instruction and being left to your own devices to get creative. With only 6 photographers on the trip, we are able to tailor the level of training to meet each individual’s needs. Our models and stylist are also on hand to help you get the most out of your photography and produce your best images. It’s about developing as a photographer but we never forget that you are also on holiday to have fun!

This is what a previous "tripper" said:

“I was lucky enough to go on the May 2017 Eurotour with Andrew, Helen, and Steve and on this tour we were accompanied by Alexa through the full tour and Nadia while we were in the Venice region.

This particular tour was fairly “full on”,  and I signed up to it very early knowing full well that “total immersion” for 10 days was going to move me forward massively at this early stage in my “photographic journey”,  and the tour did just that for me!  I have since come back and got a Bronze in the Guild’s Image of the Month competition on my first submission.

You’ll be able to see what we got up to and some of our work on the tour video, so I don’t need to ramble on about that……But what the video can’t show adequately is just how tirelessly the whole team worked to make everything a success, or the great tour camaraderie and friendships we all made along the way!

I can absolutely recommend Andrew’s tours to anyone who genuinely wants to “step up a level” by working with fantastic people in great locations, all on a sensible budget.  They come in various styles, formats and durations, so it really is just a matter of choosing the right one for you!  I’ll certainly be going again!
